Priorities
In his book Essentialism, Greg McKeown talks about how the word priority didn’t become pluralised until the 1900s.
language often changes to accommodate and reflect cultural shifts.
Today we find ourselves in a world where we talk of competing priorities as if many things can each hold the highest importance at the same time.
To get around this, our ‘priorities’ are contextualised to their respective areas of concern. This allows us to prioritise a new thing as it arises in each separate area of concern.
I have to wonder at what cost this comes to our health when in each of these seemingly ‘separate’ spheres of concern, we must constantly shift our energy and attention to a new equally important thing.
