Imitation and learning
When I was younger I used to trace drawings of Mickey Mouse. The more I did this, the more I eventually had the confidence to draw Mickey without the aid of reference.
Eventually, I started coming up with my own iterations of Mickey and then my own characters.
This approach to learning has followed me throughout my life. I often begin with a role model or a starting point to help reduce friction and remove barriers to learning.
Imitation is the best way to quickly get to the action, and it’s often by doing that we get the most value when learning something new.
