Reviewing my Process
One month since I started this experiment and can safely say I’ve built a habit. With the exception of one missed day, I’ve kept up the practice and am getting a lot out of it. And although the quality of the writing is confronting, I am trying to resign myself to the process.
As I wrote yesterday, I’m struggling with knowing what to write about and I guess that comes from a lack of clarity about what I’m trying to achieve.
Today I’ve been thinking about the broader areas of interest that have remained somewhat consistent. At this point, these interests fall into three broad areas: Technology, Culture and Society.
Having these overarching themes has helped me consider the different aspects of technology. Under the heading of technology alone I was able to make a fairly expansive list of sub-topics that I’m interested in.
This list was a great start, but when I considered how that translated into action points, I got a little stuck. Where do I start? And what should I read and write about from this list.
I think the best thing to do when you get caught up in the overwhelming details of a project is to zoom back out. And so I started to ask some probing questions: What burning questions do I have? What am I frustrated by? What gets under my skin? or, what really excites and inspires me?
These kinds of questions can be a good way of bringing to the surface the things that have been bubbling away in my subconscious, those things that often surface when the mind wanders.
From this I started to get some ideas:
Web3 and the attack on web2 / Web3's superiority complex
What is the Metaverse?
What are the technical challenges of Interoperability?
Why don't most people know how to think critically
Profile Pictures, avatars, digital identity and self-expression
How might NFT's and Crypto be regulated and what are the issues around this?
And so I will begin this week by delving into some of these questions. I’ve collated some readings In Zotero and am going to start working my way through them and taking some notes. I suppose I’ll probably reflect on some of the things I discover as I go, which is what I had hoped this blogging process would look like; a kind of logbook for personal development and intellectual inquiry.
