More questions than answers

It’s been a while since I delved into a new subject matter and I forget how overwhelming it can be when you first dive in. All the new terminology, and sometimes even old terms used in new ways. On top of that, there are often conflicting points of view and disagreements. You have to be careful not to jump to any kind of conclusion and instead suspend judgement until you’ve considered the different perspectives.

The Metaverse is definitely a great area to study if I was looking at throwing myself in the deep end. Even as I have a first cursory read, I am noticing a lack of consensus on what the Metaverse is or wants to be. There are technological and engineering issues as well as social and economic issues to surmount.

Another thing that stands out is that there seems to be an arms race among many tech giants to get their first.

I have to wonder whether we might see multiple ecosystems that act as small digital nations as a result of so many parties trying to build their own version of the metaverse.

One thing I am learning, is that there is an incredible amount of conviction from these companies that this is an area worth investing in and that has to count for something.

As one might expect, I have so many more questions than answers and that’s how it should be at this stage of the research process.
