An enduring record
The essay remains an ideal vehicle for satisfying that human urge so many of us feel — to not just live year to year but to capture a bit of that life, to produce an enduring record of our better thoughts.

The thing I love about reading is the moment you come across a passage that perfectly articulates something you feel, or have experienced.
It's this sentiment that has had me writing journals for as long as I can remember. I've always been someone what introverted and somewhat inward-focused. As far as creativity goes, drawing and illustration have always been my main outlet.
Writing for me hasn't been a creative outlet, rather it’s a psychological necessity. Occasionally I go long stretches where I don't write at all, and eventually, I fall apart. Even just a couple of sessions of writing can clear my mind and set me right again. So I try to do it as often as I can.
While I wouldn’t say my journal is filled with my better thoughts, I trust the process enough to know that they will come. At the very least, they will be an enduring record of my thoughts and there is something magical about that.
